What the PHP checker looks at

PHP version
Read from the server's headers, then compared with php.net's support schedule and the latest release of that branch.
Version on show
Whether the server tells every visitor its PHP and web server versions, which helps attackers choose an exploit.
WordPress
The WordPress version against the latest release, and whether the page gives it away.
phpinfo pages
Leftover phpinfo.php, info.php and test.php pages that show the server's whole set-up to anyone.
HTTPS
Whether logins and forms travel encrypted.

Questions

How do I check which PHP version my website uses?

Enter the address above. If the server shows its PHP version, the checker reads it and says whether it is still supported. If it is hidden, which is safer, look in your hosting control panel (in Plesk: Websites & Domains, then PHP) or ask your host.

Which PHP versions are still supported?

PHP 8.4 and 8.5 get full support. PHP 8.2 and 8.3 get security fixes only, until the end of 2026 and 2027. PHP 8.1, 8.0 and every 7.x version get no fixes at all, so any security hole found in them stays open.

Is it safe to run an old PHP version?

No. An unsupported PHP version gets no security fixes, so known holes stay open on your site. Old versions are also slower: PHP 8 runs most WordPress sites noticeably faster than PHP 7.

Will upgrading PHP break my website?

It can, if the theme, plugins or code use features newer PHP removed. Update WordPress, the theme and plugins first, test on a staging copy, then switch. Most hosts, including Netcetera, let you switch back in one click.

What PHP version does WordPress need?

WordPress recommends PHP 8.3 or newer. It still runs on older versions, but with no security fixes for PHP itself.

Can you upgrade PHP for me?

Yes. Press "Fix my website for me" under your results and Netcetera will check your site and quote to upgrade PHP, WordPress and plugins safely.
